It’s hard to believe it’s been three years already, but the time has come for me, the in-house graphic designer (and sometimes illustrator), to leave Hot Key. It hasn’t been an easy decision – where else would I get to work on such a varied and different list?
I’ve been putting illustrated fiction together one day (look out for Ross Collins’ new covers for Fleur Hitchcock’s Shrunk! series), typographical covers the next (I’m specially proud of Lorali by Laura Dockrill, Anything That Isn’t This by Chris Priestley and Sophie Someone from Hayley Long, they should be in your Twitter feeds before long) and pulling YA covers together in-between. Or how about getting to work with amazing illustrators I admire, such as Kali Ciesemier, Jussi Kaakinen and Nicolas Delort! Not to forget the epic Wrestling Trolls series that I’ve been illustrating – the next two books due in June and September!
This all without mentioning the sadness of not coming in to the office every morning to meet the lovely, ambitious and truly book loving people that work here! This comic, my first blog post, is for them. And this video post, from 2013, sums my feelings up pretty spot on today.
