Hello! It’s book club time again, which means it must be FEBRUARY already.
This month we’ll be reading Rainbow Rowell’s FANGIRL. Perhaps you’ve already read ELEANOR & PARK – the misfit love-story that captured the internet’s attention last year and, in the words of John Green, “…reminded me not just what it’s like to be young and in love with a girl, but also what it’s like to be young and in love with a book.”
WELL SAID, JOHN.
FANGIRL is the story of number-one fangirl Cath, whose whole life revolves around the Simon Snow fiction series. Cath’s sister Wren has mostly grown away from the fandom (it’s set as the sister head off to college), but Cath can’t (and doesn’t really want to) let go. Especially when the alternative is facing up to living without her sister and away from her Dad for the first time.
ELEANOR & PARK was an emotional ride from start to finish – you literally couldn’t put that book down, the characters’ emotions were so tangible. I’m hoping Rainbow has pulled off something similar in FANGIRL – the relationship between twins Cath and Wren sounds particularly intriguing.
Grab a copy and read along with us – we’ll be discussing at the end of the month. And if the synopsis alone hasn’t persuaded you to pick it up, check out the awesome reviews on Goodreads!
