E. Lockhart heads on a road trip for HOW TO BE BAD #LockhartRoadTrip

HOW TO BE BADWe are so excited to announce that E. Lockhart, the author of 2014’s smash hit YA novel WE WERE LIARS is set to visit the UK in July and will be hitting the road to promote the reissue of HOW TO BE BAD – a novel written alongside authors Lauren Myracle and Sarah Mlynowski.

The book follows three girls who want to escape – Jesse, Vicks and Mel. They decide to visit Vicks’ boyfriend at college, and on the way visit some sights from her Fantastical Florida book – the stuffed 300 year old Gator Joe, the world’s smallest police station, a castle made out of coral…

So to truly honour the book’s release, we will be taking E. Lockhart out to as many bookshops and weird and wonderful sites in the UK as possible – be it a museum for prunes, or the country’s largest sunflower, we want to add it to the visit list!

The road trip will take place on the weekend of the 20th/21st June 2015 and will documented throughout via vlogs, Twitter, snapchat and tumblr and through regional PR.

We are putting the power in the hands of the public, and are asking for suggestions from readers and booksellers to be sent in for locations to visit across the weekend. We will consider all suggestions, although geographical location will need to be taken into account.

Suggestions for sites or shops to visit should be sent through to or tweeted @hotkeybooks using #LockhartRoadTrip.

We look forward to seeing your suggestions!

About E. Lockhart:
E. Lockhart is the author of the 2014 smash hit WE WERE LIARS – shortlisted for The Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize and winner of the Goodreads Choice Award for YA, it has sold over 100,000 copies in print and digital in the UK alone in less than a year. She is also the author of the fantastically feminist tale THE DISREPUTABLE HISTORY OF FRANKIE LANDAU BANKS and the RUBY OLIVER series. HOW TO BE BAD was written with Lauran Myracle and Sarah Mlynowski, each writing one of the girls’ characters throughout.

Jesse, Vicks and Mel couldn’t be more different. Jesse, a righteous Southern gal who’s as thoughtful as she is uptight, is keeping a secret that she knows will change her life forever. Vicks is a wild child: seemingly cool, calm and collected on the outside, but inside she’s furious at herself for being so anxious about her neglectful boyfriend. And Mel is the new girl in town. She’s already been dismissed as just another rich kid, but all she wants is to get over some of her fears and find some true friends.

But for all their differences, the girls discover they’ve got one thing in common – they’re desperate to escape. Desperate to get the heck out of Niceville and discover their true ‘badass’ selves! Even if it’s just for the weekend … One ‘borrowed’ car later, it’s time to hit the road and head for Miami. Hearts will be broken, friendships will be tested, and a ridiculously hot stranger could change the course of everything.
